Latest study: Vegetarians have brittle bones!

végé 300x224 Dernière étude: Les végétariens ont les os fragiles !

In our physical activities, we need strong bones. Otherwise, no way to tack on a tennis court quickly or to squat heavy weights.

The latest research suggests that vegetarians have a lower density ossseuse than non-vegetarians.

But the news is not so bad, those who eat no animal products are not more affected by fractures.

The results, published a few days ago in the American Journal of Nutrition, we come from a review of a study involving over 2500 people.

Research shows that a lower density ossseuse, a preacher of osteoporosis, increased risk of bone fractures.

The epidemiologist and author Tuan Nguyen, from Sydney's Garvan Institute of Medical Research, said that there are 4 categories that influence bone density: genetics, hormones, exercise and nutrition.

He believed that vegetarians, those who completely avoid animal products, have a bone density and so will advocate for more fractures. The study shows that vegetarians rather have 5% less bone density than non-vegetarians. But Nguyen tells us that the study that vegetarians had no more chance of being admitted with bone fractures than non-vegetarians.

This is probably because vegetarians tend to be more health conscious, said Nguyen.

"If you look at vegetarians as a whole, they are healthier, they tend to live longer and have less risk of developing high blood pressure and heart problems." And there's also good to Other factors that influence bone density and fracture risk, such as hormonal défiences, smoking and lifestyle, says Nguyen.

Research has also shown that women are at greater risk of fractures due to their lower bone density.

"About 70% of fractures in elderly women arrive," said Nguyen.
